Live Wire confirm change to Music Review Scoring System

LiveWire Music was created with the aim of bringing our readers information on upcoming live shows throughout the area, and providing in-depth show reviews and image galleries. Alongside this we also produced a small number of reviews of new EP and album releases. We introduced a simple system of Mic scores from 1 to 5, shown as a fraction on a sillouette of our site logo.

With the impact of Covid-19 on the music industry as a whole, and in particular on our model of business, which means we can’t share with you live music, we have had to adapt (like many others) and have turned our focus onto reviews and other projects, such as the series of Spotify playlists which we hope you have enjoyed so far. We hope you have enjoyed our reviews so far, and we appreciate the positive feedback comments so far from artists and fans alike through Social Media.

But we have felt that the time was right for a change in our scoring system which we felt was too simple and therefore limiting.

As a result we have ditched the 1 to 5 in favour of a 1 to 10 scale, but which allows for half scores as well. Hopefully this will allow us to give a wider range of scores and a more nuanced score to match the detailed reviews we do. Where a top score of 10 is awarded, this will also be highlighted in gold to acknowledge the outstanding mark. Examples of the old and new systems are shown below for reference.

For prevent any lack of clarity between systems a previous score of 4 will be equal to an 8, and a 5 previously, will be honoured as a 10 on the new scale.

We have plenty of new releases in the pipeline to review in the coming weeks, such as albums from Non Canon, Firewind, The Other, D.C. Fontaines and the Outlaw Orchestra…. so watch this space.
