Brighton-based CELLO shares remixes of latest single "Like a Tiger"
Brighton-based artist Cello has released two new NJOI remixes of her defiant third single, Like A Tiger.
Remixed by 90's rave & house icons NJOI, the Like A Tiger Dub and Extended Club mixes bring iconic 90s energy while delivering a modern club-ready sound. Built around driving dub-infused grooves, uplifting vocal textures and an epic build perfect for dancefloor euphoria, the track captures the spirit of classic dance music while fitting seamlessly alongside today’s biggest house and dance releases.

NJOI is an electronic dance band formed in 1989 by Mark Franklin & Nigel Champion. The duo have had four top 40 UK hits and have played tours alongside the likes of Moby, 808 State and The Prodigy. Their song Anthem is recognised as one of House’s greatest releases, earning acclaim from Mixmag who declared it “one of the 20 best piano house tracks ever.”
Ahead of her forthcoming album “Kung Fu Disco”, emerging indie-pop artist Cello returned earlier this month with her third single Like A Tiger. Part Robyn, part Bolan, with a hint of Madonna, driving funk guitars on a heavy disco beat lay the foundation for this song, which explores the idea of otherness.
“I wanted it to feel like breaking free,” shares Cello, “The song is about feeling like an alien, like you don’t belong, and maybe you’re not even from here.” But instead of being afraid of that feeling, “Like A Tiger” is about learning to love the strangeness. The universe is infinite and we are just specs of dust amongst the stars, but somehow, through it all, we are connected.
And of course, there’s the tiger. We all want to be like a tiger, don’t we?
Cello is a solo artist from Brighton, UK. Nicknamed Cello after studying at the Junior Royal College of Music as a young cellist, she blends classical discipline with a lifelong love of post-punk, indie-rock and art-pop to create a sound that feels both fresh and strangely familiar.
Drawing inspiration from everything around her – from the dramatic flair of Stevie Nicks and Lady Gaga to her parents’ eclectic vinyl collection of heavy rock, David Bowie and Eurythmics – Cello channels those influences through the sharp-edged energy of post-punk and art-rock acts such as Wire and Blondie.
While touring internationally as a professional cellist, she met producer and co-writer JB – a former EMIM Music Studios engineer whose credits include Guru’s ‘Jazzmatazz’, Primal Scream, Heavy Stereo, The House of Love and Merz – after a chance meeting on the last train home from London.
During lockdown, Cello began writing songs of her own, bringing her love of rock and roll from the stage into the studio. Together with JB, she developed her debut album, “Kung Fu Disco”, due for release in autumn 2026 on Barracuda Recordings. Recorded at The Metway – home to The Levellers – the album captures the excitement, experimentation and irreverent spirit that drives Cello’s music.
