Raven Numan shares her take on the Nine Inch Nails deep cut "In This Twilight"
2024 saw Raven Numan emerge as the bright new hope of the dark-pop and industrial scenes with early singles including Going Down, In My Head and My Reflection. Now she builds upon that breakthrough with a double-shot of action as 2025 comes to a close. Today she releases her take on the Nine Inch Nails deep cut and fan favourite In This Twilight. It comes as she prepares to head out as special guest on Gary Numan’s ‘Telekon 45’ tour next week. You can listen to the new track HERE.
The original version of In This Twilight featured on Nine Inch Nails’ “Year Zero” album from 2007. It’s a choice of song and a rework that could only come from a devoted NIN fan. Raven’s version rips away the serrated, caustic production embellishments that gives the song its multilayered depth, instead focusing on the purity of its haunting vocal melody. Feminine and ethereal, her voice takes us to the heart of its inner vulnerability, deeper unlocking its inner optimism and tranquility.
Both Raven and Gary Numan shared extracts of the track shortly after it was recorded, sparking a wave of anticipation amongst Nine Inch Nails’ fan community.
Raven says, “‘In This Twilight’ has always had a special place in my heart. I first remember hearing Mum playing it while I sat in the back of her PT Cruiser in my car seat when I was only four-years-old. Even though I was very young it helped shape the way I connected to music. It’s always been a dream of mine to record a cover of it and in October 2024 my producer Ade Fenton and I went into the studio and made it happen.
It was super emotional for me because NIN’s Trent Reznor is, and will forever be I’m sure, one of my biggest inspirations and, without this song, I doubt I’d be the person I am today. Covering it feels like coming full circle, a way to honour the song that first drew me into their world and continues to inspire me.”
The biggest moment of Raven Numan’s live experience so far came in the summer, when she performed her as-yet unreleased track Nothing’s What It Seems during Gary Numan’s Glastonbury set. They’re now back on the road together for the following ‘Telekon 45’ shows, many of which are already sold-out.
