Artificial Go / JT Soar / Nottingham
Tonight it’s the short trip into Nottingham and to yet another fabulous small grass roots venue in JT Soar. We’re here to catch US post-punker Artificial Go, on their UK tour.
First up in support are Burly Nagasaki a long standing Nottingham based avant-garde, post-punk surf rock outfit. Well known for their eccentric, and lo-fi sound. A set of songs many about Elvis, or Elvis’ barber, Elvis’ relationships, and more Elvis lol. With just guitar and drums, and the occasional Novation Launchpad addition, their sound is surprisingly full. The final track, funnily enough is not about Elvis at all, but about Pencils with its very own dance, which they encourage the crowd to do.
Its experimental, its underground and its delivered with a sense of fun.

Next up are No Peeling, formed in 2025 set up as a studio project. They released their self-titled debut EP the same year described on Bandcamp Essential Release as “a clanging collection of get-in-get-out egg punk that doesn’t ask for more than 10 minutes of your time and overdelivers on every front”.
In typical style the songs are short and sharp, each one hitting you like a firework. There’s something almost discordant in their sound, it’s like the synth, the drums and the singer are all performing different songs at the same time, but this complexity is managed brilliantly, and as you listen it merges together into a punk splendour unlike anything else. It’s exhilarating and energising.

As the small crowd pops out for some fresh air, the equipment is changed and given a final check by tonights headliners Artificial Go. Angie limbers up and stretches and they’re off, making the crowd rush in from outside lol
They released their debut album “Hopscotch Fever” in 2024, and then “Musical Chairs” in 2025. The core members are Angie Willcutt (vocals), Micah Wu (bass), and Cole Gilfilen (drums). Angie, dressed like an American marching band member complete with striking band hat is a formidable frontwoman.
Their sound is intricate, with Wu delivering some wonderfully funky bass lines, backing some fantastic vocals from Angie, who delivers lines articulating the strugglesof the modern world with some playful and subvertive elements thrown in as well, such as in the brilliant Tightrope Walker, about the injustice of anthropocentric hierarchy.
Artificial Go deliver a brilliant set, its serious and yet somehow also playful. A kind of act of resistance, in a messed up world.
