Electric Litany return with glittering, dreamy single "Diamonds"
Electric Litany are back with the shimmering new single: Diamonds. Released last Friday, the track is the first single to be cut from their highly anticipated fourth album “Desires”, expected for release later in 2025. You can stream the new single now on all major platforms HERE, or watch the video below:
Gleaming with handmade DIY synth chimes, syncopated drum machine drills, loping Hooky-like basslines, and the otherworldly resonance of the Persian santoor - an instrument now synonymous with the Electric Litany sound; Diamonds is an understated gem from the London four-piece. As complexly faceted as it is sparklingly polished, it finds the band distilling the primordial post-punk thrills of early Cure or New Order, via the modern pop productions of the here-and-now to create something both familiar and enigmatic, nostalgic and contemporary, all at once.
With singer Alexandros Miaris’s haunting refrain, of “it’s not too late…” rippling across its multilayered plateaus, his reflective vocal offers a glimmer of reassurance in a track that grapples with this age of uncertainty.
Reciprocating the archival touchstones at the heart of Diamonds the track is accompanied by a retro-shaded official video. Taking an unconventional approach, by using vintage BBC 1970s tube valve cameras (bought on eBay for £10), the video shot by cinematographer Ruth Woodside is both fragile and timeless in its aesthetic.
Produced by Electric Litany alongside longtime collaborator George Botis, Diamonds was recorded at the revered studio Fish Factory, a former fish-packing warehouse in Neasden, London.
Having already road-tested Diamonds in the spectacular setting of the Mayan Warrior stage at Burning Man 2025 (as part of Alexandros Miaris’s collaboration with renowned electronic artist Echonomist), the track was met with an electrifying reception on the festival’s main stage and signals the way towards one of the band’s most ambitious and forward-thinking releases yet…
Due for release this autumn, new album “Desires” is the culmination of over fifteen years of exploration. Emerging at a time when the line between truth and illusion is increasingly blurred, it finds the band questioning the value of authenticity. With artificial yet strikingly beautiful artwork that echoes the concepts at the heart of their latest work, it finds Electric Litany asking: “if reality is a construct, does it even matter what’s real?”
Sonically, “Desires” finds Electric Litany pushing themselves into more experimental territory than ever before. Tracks like Itorexist in a haze of distortion, while Reciprocate is a deliberately oversaturated dream-pop anthem that still holds its form. In contrast, moments of respite come in the form of Prism, where a hands-off simplicity allows the musicians to take centre stage. Richard Simic’s intricate drumming expands the rhythmic landscape with dynamic intensity, while Jason Tsontilis’s synth work elevates the band’s sonic textures into more atmospheric and experimental realms. Alexandros Miaris brings his distinct vocals, shoegaze byzantine guitars, and piano to “Desires”, adding emotional depth to the album. His multi-instrumentalism and introspective lyrics create a personal touch, blending seamlessly with the experimental textures of the band.
Across the record, “Desires” finds the band remaining true to their artistic traditions. By performing their ideas out as live impromptu recordings, trying and testing their raw, improvised components, and fusing them to etchings of pre-written ideas; the end results are palpably organic in feel and alive with the untameable energy so definitive of Electric Litany’s work.
With the entire record recorded at Fish Factory Studios, London, additional recordings were laid down at Caledonian Road Studios, London and Dada Studios and Byron Studios, Athens. The album features production, engineering and mixing from George Botis, plus additional mixing from Alexandros Miaris. Standby for details of its release in the coming months…
